It's hard to believe that Sisters in Christ has been together for 5 years!  Through those years we have seen many changes.
What remains the same are the friendships that have been made, the comfort that is offered to one another and the generous giving hearts when doing a collaborative project.

It is a blessing to know these women and be a part of their journey of faith.

Christmas Giving 2016

CHRISTMAS 2016

It's the most wonderful time of the year.  That time when we receive joyful blessings when giving at Christmas.  Our Sisters in Christ ministry has grown!  This year for Christmas we were able to help two famililes and one agency.  The generosity of the women in this ministry never ceases to amaze me.  Their loving and giving hearts will definately make Christmas special for our families this year.

Thanks to Linda M. for coordinating this endeavor and to all our sisters who were so generous not only with gifts for our families but the wonderful baked goods that we shared after our "wrap" session.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Debbie S.

This year Sisters in Christ has seen the ebb and flow of members throughout the past 4 years.  At this time we have 24 members.  There are sisters from all three parishes.

We celebrated our end of the year Picnic on June 14.  Everyone brought a dish to pass and as always we never go away from the table hungry.  Sharing food, laughter, prayer requests and plans for the year to come, including our upcoming Women's Day Retreat at Mercy Prayer Center. Everyone had a wonderful time, friendships grew and we held each other up in prayer.

Father,

I ask You to bless my sister reading this right now! Lord,
show her a new revelation of Your love and power. Holy Spirit,
I ask You to minister to her spirit at this very moment.

Where there is pain, give her Your peace and mercy.
Where there is self-doubting, release a renewed confidence
in Your ability to work through her.

Where there is tiredness, or exhaustion, I ask You to give her
understanding, patience and strength as she follows You.

Where there is spiritual stagnation,
I ask You to renew her by revealing Your nearness, and by
drawing her into a greater and deeper intimacy with You.

Where there is fear, reveal Your love and release to her Your
courage.  Where there is a sin blocking her,
break its hold over her life.

Bless her finances, give her greater vision, and raise her up as a leader,
and friend to support, and encourage. Give her discernment
to recognize the evil forces around her, and reveal to her
the power she has in You to defeat it.

I ask You to do all these things in Jesus' holy name! ~ AMEN!

May 2016

We have been together for 4 years now.  Time sure does pass by quickly!  Our Sisters ministery has grown to include members from Holy Ghost, St. Helen and St. Jude.  We are very excited about our new goals.  One being we have agreed to incorporate Parish Life Ministry in with Sisters in Christ.  This will increase our members in both ministries.  As we know . . . many hands make light work when it comes to taking on any project.

From September 2015 until now:  In September we had a Women's Day Retreat at the Mercy Prayer Center.  Mary Van Hauton spoke on "Women born Blind".  We helped the Salvation Army with their Bundle Up Program.  This program in conjunction with J.C. Penney gives coats to children in need.  For our Christmas project we helped a family of six have a happier celebration by providing gifts, food, bus passes and a family membership to the Strong Museum.  In January we collected diapers etc. for "Roc City Bottom". This organization provides diapers, wipes, powders to families that are having trouble making ends meet.  We are coming up on the end of our year.  Our annual Picnic will be in June.  We will resume meeting in September.

All women of our Holy Family Parish are welcome to be a part of this wonderful, giving, fun group.  If you have any questions you can contact Debbie Sumner at the Parish Office.

Our History from the beginning . . .

In September 2012 a small group of women gathered together and agreed that there was a need for a ministry for women that would be a help to the church, community and each other. This ministry became know as "Sisters in Christ". There are approximately 20 to 25 women that meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 7PM (special dates noted in schedule below).

On Christmas 2012 the group adopted a family, a Grandma and four children, purchased and wrapped presents and put together a food basket. In 2013 we had special speakers from Holy Childhood, Ronald McDonald House and Alternatives for Battered Women. The group helped two families from ABW for Christmas and in January of 2014 we enjoyed a potluck dinner together.

We look forward to working together to help others and each other as we travel on our journey as Christian women.

Sisters in Christ Retreat
"Day of Prayer and Reflection Retreat" at the Mercy Spirituality Center was held on Saturday,  September 26.
There were 11 members of the Sisters In Christ group present.  The retreat facilitator was Mary Van Houten,
she came with a wealth of knowledge and inspiration to us all.

The topic was "Women Born Blind" and what a great theme to help us open our eyes and welcome God in.
A few of questions we were given to ponder -
“What do you need Jesus to see in you?”  and
“What blinds you to God's goodness and grace that
surrounds you?”

Those in attendance were:  Sue Cook, Pat Capellazzi, Linda McGrain, Carla McNamara, Eleanor Kane, Kathy Schuler, Diane Schmitt, Andrea Napoli, Nancy Nau, Karen Bready and Ginny Heydens
