FAITH FORMATION FOR CHILDREN & TEENS

2018-2019

The Church recognizes that parents are the first and foremost teachers of the faith for their children. Catechists (teachers) are resources who work in partnership with parents in providing the information that helps parents provide the formation. Faith formation is a life-long process. It doesn’t end after the celebration of a sacrament or when a teen outgrows youth group. Faith formation is a personal journey that, often, is best shared with those around us, and what better way for parents to spend time with their children than in growing together in faith?

We Offer Two Options of Faith Formation for Children:

  1. Two-Week Summer Program for grades K-6 that the children attend, followed by 4-6 Family Enrichment sessions on Saturday evenings scheduled throughout the year. (For grades 7-12 see Jr. High & Sr. High Youth Group options below.)
  1. Family Faith Formation Program for grades PK-12 that children attend with their parents and/or other adult family members. These 1 ½ hour sessions are held two Sundays a month from September to May. Children in grades PK-6 receive a workbook to use at home. Jr. High grades 7-8 focus on the topics required in preparing to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation.

Sr. High grades 9-12 is designed to keep post-confirmation teens connected with their faith and to grow spiritually while serving the community. It includes parish and diocesan retreat opportunities. One goal of this program is to provide parents with the tools needed to share their faith and to help their children on their faith journey. In turn, the parents deepen their own understanding of God and the Catholic Church.

This is a family-based faith formation program where parents and children gather two Sunday mornings a month and are introduced to a faith-based topic. Some days the children will join age appropriate groups to learn more on their own level, giving the adults an opportunity to further explore the topic. Some days the families will stay together to do “Table Activities.” One goal of this program is to provide parents with the tools needed to share their faith and to help their children on their faith journey. In turn, the parents deepen their own understanding of God and the Catholic Church.

These 1 ½ hour sessions are held from September to May for grades PK-12. Children in grades PK -6 receive a workbook to use at home. All are welcome! Any age, any family type, all generations are welcome!

Please note that all children in grades PK-6 must be accompanied by an adult.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD

Children's Liturgy of the Word has children ages 4 to 10 leave the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word and gather elsewhere to celebrate a separate Liturgy of the Word that is more appropriate to their level of understanding.

After the opening prayer, but before the first reading is proclaimed, the presiding priest will formally send the children and their ministers to the place where they will celebrate their own liturgy of the word.

Children's Liturgy of the Word is celebrated at our Holy Ghost worship site at 9AM Mass
